Exfoliate | Smooth, Clear, Healthy Skin | Head to Toe

What is Exfoliation?

The process of exfoliation rids the body of any dry, dull skin by removing dead skin cells from the surface of the epidermis. By removing these dead cells, exfoliation can help keep pores from becoming clogged and leave skin with a refreshed and clean feeling.

In addition to the immediate visual benefits of exfoliation, the removal of dead skin cells speeds up the skin renewal process, allowing smoother, healthier skin cells to take their place [source: Crawford]. Not only will this help with fine lines and wrinkles, but it will help to ease discoloration as well.

What's the benefit to clean and clear pores?

Clogged pores can result in blackheads and acne. Furthermore, when pores are clogged, they appear larger. So, if you're worried about the size of your pores, although you can't reduce their actual size (genetics is the biggest factor in pore size), you can help diminish their appearance by keeping them clog-free. Therefore, exfoliating can help with minimize your pores.

Benefits of Exfoliation

Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation can bring new life to your complexion. Skin cleansing is clearly beneficial, exfoliating on a regular basis -- once or twice a week for mild exfoliation, once or twice a month for more intense treatments -- can improve the results of your skin care routine and help rejuvenate your skin. Exfoliating also allow for better penetration of skin care products such as: cleansers, toners, serums, oils, moisturizers/lotions and masques for your face and entire body...that also includes your feet.

My Benefits of Exfoliation

Being that I have only skin, I typically exfoliate 2x a week ( every 2 days). During the summer however, due to the humidity, I usually exfoliate 3 - 4 times a week; especially if I am outside a lot for any reason. Having a consistent routine of exfoliating has improved my skin texture, clarity, glow and tone overall. My skin response to products quicker and I get the results that I am looking for. I love the fact that I can wear less make up more and more and the healing process of any flare ups or sores is quicker as well. Experiment with different exfoliating tools or products and find those that work best for you.

My Staple Exfoliating Tools

What you use to exfoliate your body or feet will not be what you would use to exfoliate the more delicate skin of your face. So, for me, it was more about the type of tools in conjunction with my skincare products. I have developed a more consistent routine in the past 4 years and through trail and error found that these are the best for me. Pairing certain facial cleansers and body washes with the right tool has intensified the effects of exfoliating.

The products below are repurchased on average every 4 to 5 weeks or when the exfoliating surfaces has become smooth. I let all tools completely air dry and then store them in an air tight bag to keep clear of dust and dirt. Otherwise, follow the directions on the package on how to care for your exfoliating tools.

These tools can be purchased at your local store in the beauty/health/skincare section or online.
